Discipleship Under Development

Immanuel’s theme for this ministry year is “Discipleship Under Development.” Join us as we  begin this journey. Pr. Kennaugh shares our goals below and the following pages provide a variety of opportunities for each of us to develop our personal discipleship. There are also ways to work alongside others at Immanuel as partners in ministry to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community.

Disciples are developed as they come into the presence of God in worhsip. Worship is the place where the most disciples gather around God's Word and Sacraments. For this reason, service will be designed to develop our worship fellowship through targeted lessons and supporting activities and matierals.

This year’s teaching time in God’s Word will focus on discipleship issues. We will begin by unpacking the concept of discipleship and will continue throughout the year to consider discipleship from different angles: we will see the Church in Acts live out the discipleship call. We will consider the Word of God and how we can better engage it in our personal lives, the role that partnerships play in the life of faith, and so on.

Ministry to families will focus on developing partnerships with parents with the goal of providing encouragement and better equipping them to be the spiritual leaders in their homes. Regular, encouraging communication with parents will be accomplished through activities such as home visits; emails that include prayers, ideas, and encouragement; and fellowship coffees to build community and opportunities for peer support.
