Immanuel Youth Ministry exists to enable teens to grow in their relationship with God and each other, so that through the study of God’s word they may grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian today can be very difficult and it can be especially challenging for middle school and high school students. Having a place to connect with God and be surrounded by youth who also want to grow in their faith is incredibly valuable. Through our middle school and high school ministry we create a place for youth to ask tough questions about their faith, dig into God’s Word, pray for each other and encourage one another to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
High school youth night at Immauel is back! The first piece, HSY (High School Youth) Sunday Night, is similar in scope to ROC, but the focus in on community. In a large group environment, there is opportunity for small group discussion and large group participation. The community feel continues during fellowship time at the end of the evening.
The second piece, HSY Simply Bible, is a commitment to read and reflect on God’s word with a group. High school youth are invited to fellowship and reflect on readings in an informal setting; an awesome opportunity for engaging conversation and personal exploration.
The high school youth of Immanuel Lutheran Church will travel to Rushville, Indiana in July 2017 and work with the residents on home repair and maintenance.
The fundraising goal for this year is $10,000 to cover the cost of transportation to and from Rushville and the balance of chaperone mission trip costs. Each volunteer chaperone, in addition to committing to assist during mission week (often necessitating taking vacation time from work), also participates in preparatory events and assists with fundraisers.
Immanuel high school youth have participated in mission trips across the Midwest since 2008. Previous trips include Parsons, Kansas (2008), Hawley, Minnesota (2009), Hurricane, West Virginia (2011), Greenville, Michigan (2012), Glenwood, Minnesota (2014), and Waterloo, Iowa (2015); seven trips in all with the 2017 trip to Rushville. More than 115 different students have participated, with 22 different chaperones working alongside them. Each year trip participants work to earn the funding needed to participate in these mission trips.
The high school youth of Immanuel Lutheran Church will travel to Rushville, Indiana in July 2017 and work with the residents on home repair and maintenance. The trip is organized by Group Mission Trip Workcamps, which charges $449 per person for this particular mission experience. It is necessary for trip participants to raise funds needed for transportation costs over and above the registration fee charged by Group.
Immanuel youth participants, once again, need to earn the funding required to lend a hand. This year, rather than a variety of sales-based fundraisers each month, the group plans to provide three sales opportunities, two restaurant fundraising dates, two online MissionAid events, and Go Grants--an updated version of the familiar ROC Stock--will be available throughout the year.
