Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one caring ministry provided by our congregation. Immanuel equips and empowers lay caregivers--called Stephen Ministers--to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.
Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry offered by Immanuel and other congregations. The Stephen System equips and empowers lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care. They work with people who are hurting or going through a difficult time such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. Men are paired with men; women with women. Each Stephen Minister comes alongside a hurting person and meets with that person weekly to listen, care, encourage, and pray.
Stephen Ministry benefits Immanuel in several ways:
Our congregation has a practical and powerful way to respond to Christ’s commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12 RSV).
Our pastors have gifted, trained, and committed lay caregivers ready to minister to hurting people.
The Stephen Ministers nurture and use their gifts in meaningful ministry, growing spiritually as they serve others.
People who are hurting have compassionate companions—caring Christian friends who provide emotional and spiritual support.
